Wit Is Studying in China!

← Back to The Next Step Wit, a student at The Next Step

Wit (Surasak), 22, is of the Akha tribe. He completed two years at Rajabhat University in a program combining Business and Chinese language study, on top of English courses, and speaks Thai and Akha fluently, with Chinese and English both coming along well.

For his third year of university, Wit is studying abroad in Chengdu, China, roughly 1,400km (900 miles) north of Chiang Mai. He's had a great year there and made it back to visit the house, and Seed of Hope, during the winter break in February.

Wit's father, Lopa, is a longtime friend of Bob's; the two used to work together at Frontier Labourers for Christ, a Christian mission group based in Doi Saket on the outskirts of Chiang Mai, and Bob has known Lopa for 12 years, since before moving to Thailand himself. Lopa now manages the Seed of Hope children's home in Phrao, about an hour and a half north of Chiang Mai, and Wit helps out there whenever he can.

When teams come to visit, Wit is one of the most helpful residents around, driving vehicles and translating between English, Thai, and Akha.
