Our New Student, Kaow!

Kaow (Wanchai) joined The Next Step ministry house at 20 years old, from the Hmong tribe. His big news was graduating from Payap Technology College, where he studied computers.
Bob has a personal connection to the Hmong tribe, having worked with Hmong kids for several years in the Mae Chaem area, three hours west of Chiang Mai. Kaow wasn't from that area himself, but the two had talked about visiting the Hmong villages together.
Kaow came from a family of seven children and was the second-youngest. His parents couldn't afford to help him financially, though an older brother sent him about $30 a month. Kaow's own goal was to attend university to continue his education, and the house was figuring out whether he'd need to work for a year first or whether support could be raised to help him start that August.
